There are only two known non-mammal therids and both are essentially a similar type of a non-mammal (if I understand the modern taxonomy correctly). Hank here is listed as just "dinosaur" because apparently some sort of amalgam of tyrannosaur and raptor. Albert could probably explain it better, I'm no paleontologist. But Hank is and was human, originally from Boulder, Colorado. Renowned and successful. Why he would choose to become a dinosaur person is not a mystery, why he would choose to become a lab assistant for Talon Faust since his transformation is.
Hank is intelligent in his own right, he has a doctorate after all, but Faust seems to use him more as muscle and security. I should be more surprised that Faust managed to create an extinct animal but the whole therid process is so advanced, anyway, finding the required DNA was probably simple by comparison. If he left Faust, he could be an asset for WILD. He is smart and the largest therid we know of. But until we better understand his motivations and apparent willingness to assist Faust, it would be something of a risk.
